Yamato Resurrection: Director's Cut Preview Streamed [via AnimeNewsNetwork]

2009 film returns with 30+ added minutes, different ending in Tokyo, Osaka in January
The official community website Yamato Crew began streaming a 270-second preview video for the director's cut of the Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection anime film on Tuesday. The preview highlights several scenes from the upcoming film release, including battle clips with the title spaceship.

The 2009 film's new version will have newly added sequences, a different ending from the original version, and a redone soundtrack, in accordance with the late director Yoshinobu Nishizaki's wishes. The new edition also adds at least 30 minutes to the original film and inclludes never-before-seen scenes, re-cut scenes, and new dialogue recordings.

The director's cut will play in two theaters in Tokyo and Osaka from January 28 to February 3. Bandai Visual will then release this extended edition on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on March 23. Bandai Visual had announced that the first Blu-ray Disc and DVD release of Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection would have both endings, but then it delayed that earlier release and did not include both endings last year.

The original 1974 anime (dubbed and partly rewritten in English as Star Blazers) recounted the voyages of the World War II battleship Yamato after it is resurrected in 2199 as a space-faring ship to fend off alien threats to Earth. Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection is set in the year 2220, 17 years after the battleship Yamato went down in the Sea of Aquarius. A rebuilt Yamato rises to save humanity and face an unprecedented threat.

Evangelion: 2.0 Film's TV Debut Garners 13.1 Rating

The television edition of the Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance film premiered on Friday with a 13.1% rating in Tokyo's Kanto area, according to the survey firm Video Research. Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance (Evangelion Shin Gekijōban: Ha) is the second film in Hideaki Anno and Khara's four-part remake of Gainax's Neon Genesis Evangelion television anime series.
After airing the film, the broadcast station NTV ran a preview for the third film, Evangelion Shin Gekijō-ban Q Quickening. The preview revealed that the third film will open in Japan in Fall of 2012.
The second film's Kanto rating was higher than that for the first film, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. The first film had its television premiere in July of 2009 on the same station and earned a 12.7 rating.
Mayu Watanabe, a member of the all-female idol group AKB48 who is known by her nickname "Mayuyu," was named ōen-taichō (support team head) for the television premiere of the second film. She appeared in commercials and a short segment to promote the broadcast.
Just as in other NTV Friday film broadcasts, the "TV version" of Evangelion: 2.0 had an optional, onscreen "scene guide" with text data linked to the scenes of the film as they played on digital televisions. The scene guide also displayed a graph for a special campaign called "Synchronization Rate Test" (a reference to a plot term in the anime). The graph rose or fll depending on how viewers do in an "Eva Cult Quiz" that ran simultaneously with the airing. When the quiz answers broke a certain threshold, the Synchronization Rate Test entered Berserk Mode. People who participated in this campaign could enter a giveaway for presents.
The film screened in American theaters in January, and FUNimation Entertainment released the film on DVD and Blu-ray in North America in March.

The third film was first revealed with a teaser that ran at the end of the second film's theatrical release. The "Q" or "Kyū" in the third film's title is a wordplay in Japanese; the first three films' subtitles are the names for the three classical movements (Jo-Ha-Kyū or Introduction-Exposition-Climax) of traditional Japanese music such as gagaku and Noh.

Original creator Shoji Kawamori (Macross, Escaflowne) will serve as the chief director for the series, and Yusuke Yamamoto (B Gata H Kei, Welcome to the NHK) will direct. Yoko Kanno (Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) is again producing the theme song. Chinatsu Kurahana (Uta no Prince-sama - Maji Love 1000%) and Kana Ishida are drawing the original character designs that Ishida and Hirotaka Marufuji (Armored Core: Fort Tower Song) will then adapt for anime. The story of Aquarion Evol will take place 12,000 years after the first Aquarion television series at a city modeled after Hong Kong. She then participated in a creation of an anime short during her idol group's AKB48 Kami TV Season 2 television program in 2009. She received her own manga series in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2010, and she was drawn by Suzuka/Kimi no Iru Machi creator Kouji Seo for an illustration in Kodansha's Magazine Special magazine this year.
