Made by shop behind 1/2-scale Sky Crawlers plane; October display in Tokyo planned
The official website for next month's Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing- television anime series revealed on Friday that a 1/1-scale model of the main characters' vanship is now under construction. The anime centers around Fam (Aki Toyosaki), a girl from an aerial family, "and her trusted navigator, Giselle, as they pilot their vanship, Vespa, through the free and peaceful skies."
The model shop Akiyamakobo is heading the project, and another shop named Hara Paint Works is painting the model. Yet another shop, Taps Bell, is responsible for the metallic finish. The model will go on display at the Kichijōji Anime Wonderland 2011 event in Tokyo from October 8 to October 10.
Victor Entertainment's Flying Dog label began streaming the first report on the production of the model on Thursday:
Akiyamakobo has also sold two human-sized EVA-01 models, an EVA-01 head mounted on the wall, and life-size figures of Evangelion's Rei and Asuka characters as well as Mighty Atom/Astro Boy's title character. Akiyamakobo offers a half-scale version of the fictional Sanka Mk B aerial fighter from Mamoru Oshii's The Sky Crawlers film. Oshii himself commissioned Akiyamakobo to make a 10-meter-tall (33-foot-tall) Tetsujin 28 robot for his stage play, and Disney commissioned the firm to make a human-sized figure of the Drossel von Flugel robot from the Fireball anime.
Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing- will premiere in Japan on October 7. Funimation licensed the anime for North America.
